EDS to Upgrade Federal Government's Online Services
CANBERRA – EDS Australia has won a contract to transform the Federal Government's australia.gov.au website into a whole-of-government transaction point covering multiple services.
EDS will link online services involving numerous government agencies to create one access point for citizens interacting with the federal government.
Under the Australian Government Online Service Point (AGOSP) program, EDS will design, deliver and implement the system over the period of three years. The contract supports the key principles of the Rudd Government's reform agenda focusing on better coordinating the delivery of government services.
EDS Australia and New Zealand acting Managing Director Neil Emerson said EDS would be working closely with its industry partners to support the government's key online service agenda.
“We see this as a significant step for the government in making it easier for individuals and businesses to find information and services online and to interact with a range of government agencies,” Mr Emerson said. “This contract further strengthens EDS' already significant position in the applications services market.
“Due to its importance, this was an intensely competitive process and we are pleased with the confidence that the government has shown in selecting EDS.”
The new online service will provide citizens with the ability to access government information and transactional services through a single australia.gov.au online account.
“Successive e-government satisfaction surveys have indicated that the existing government information and online service arrangements are too rigid, too hard to find and often use complex language that is difficult to understand,” said Finance Minister Lindsay Tanner.
“People are also frustrated by the need to visit multiple websites to get the information and services they need and have repeatedly requested simple access to government information and services. The new australia.gov.au site will provide a more personalised way for people to interact with government and will provide a great deal of the desired functionality outlined in the 2020 Summit.”
