EDS Helps Law Enforcement Agencies Protect Public at Major Events

At the 2006 World Series, EDS was there. Not just in the stands as spectators, but on the ground assisting federal law enforcement agencies in protecting the public.

It was a familiar role for EDS. Through a government contract awarded in 2003, EDS employees work with federal and city law enforcement agencies at major public events to secure the perimeter and check for any and all suspicious activities. “We provide the IT support so that the agents can concentrate on their mission of catching the bad guys,” said EDS Client Delivery Executive Rob Holder.

In addition to the Fall Classic, an EDS team has supported law enforcement agencies at Super Bowls, All-Star Baseball Games, the Democratic and Republican National Conventions and the G-8 Summit. The agencies set up and operate emergency centers to ensure the safety of those attending the events.

EDS supports these activities by providing equipment, data and/or voice communications services to federal agencies' staff. EDS employees routinely accompany agents to these events, providing laptops, printers, IP phones, switches and other hardware required to establish and support local- and wide-area networks.

EDS works closely with the law enforcement community to determine the IT tools needed to perform their duties at these events. The EDS team then mobilizes the required personnel and equipment to the site, and ensures its operability before the law enforcement personnel arrive, so they can begin their mission immediately and work in any environment just as if they were at their offices. EDS makes sure the agencies can carry out their mission without having to worry about IT.

“Since we began working with the law enforcement community in 2003, our team gets great satisfaction in knowing we are really helping them do their jobs, and in turn, they make us feel as if we are an integral part of their team,” said EDS team manager Jerry Jarman.

At the World Series in October, EDS set up local- and wide-area networks at the stadium in Detroit and provided mobile communications devices and wireless-enabled laptops for the agents, who were on hand to provide security.

In 2007, law enforcement agents will be at the Super Bowl in Miami. As the planning process to prepare for the event unfolds, EDS will once again be ready to assist.
