Results
Integrated Freight Logistics
Although the importance of integrated freight logistics information is well recognized, the sector has been slow in effecting change related to its role in the supply chain. With heightened cargo security and continuing productivity requirements, freight logistics enterprises require an integrated information system to be competitive. Information drives all the fundamental processes in a freight logistics enterprise. Managing this information and its related systems is the key to success.
- The State of Michigan consolidated the separate systems run by the Department of State, Department of Transportation and State Police, and Department of Information Technology to establish a combined data source. This allows faster and broader access to accident data, which improved safety on Michigan's roads, provided faster access to information about high-incident areas and accelerated corrective action.
- EDS and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) overhauled the National Airspace System (NAS) to one based on a service-oriented architecture. This dramatically improved United States aviation safety within the constraints of a fixed budget. Now, pilots and air traffic controllers get the critical data they need when they need it most. For the first time, aviation stakeholders have real-time, Web-based access to mission-critical information systems. And system availability has improved to 99.975 percent.
- Italy's Motorizzazione Civile dei Trasporti in Concessione (MCTC), under the guidance of the Ministry of Transportation, needed to modernize its systems and offer an e-government option. EDS implemented and managed an agile new IT environment. Now, about 20,000 subscribers are linked to the system, ensuring consistent processes and information exchange among all offices. Annually, the system reliably handles more than 2 million license requests, 4 million vehicle registrations and 9 million reviews of data and documents.
