Supplier Diversity

Our Mission

To increase business opportunities by selecting, developing and managing the right relationships and alliances among diverse suppliers, EDS and our clients.

The EDS Supplier Diversity Team was formed in 1992 to identify and include minority, women-owned and small business enterprises in EDS' procurement processes. In support of the supplier diversity initiative within the U.S., EDS has set annual goals and objectives that are targeted at increasing the amount of business EDS does with diverse suppliers and opportunities for diverse companies to do business with EDS. EDS recognizes its diverse supply base as a viable and competitive resource and fully supports the need to utilize minority, women-owned and small businesses.

Business Classification

Minority

A for-profit enterprise, regardless of size, physically located in the United States or its trust territories, which is owned, operated and controlled by minority group members. "Minority group members" are United States citizens who are Asian, Black, Hispanic and Native American. Ownership by minority individuals means the business is at least 51 percent owned by such individuals or, in the case of a publicly-owned business, at least 51 percent of the stock is owned by one or more such individuals. Further, the management and daily operations are controlled by those minority group members.

Women-Owned

A women-owned business consists of the following criteria:

  • Fifty-one percent ownership by a woman or women
  • Proof of effective management of the business (operating position, by-laws, hire-fire and other decision-making role)
  • Control of the business as evidenced by signature role on loans, leases and contracts
  • U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Resident Alien Status

Small Business

A concern, including its affiliates, that is independently owned and operated, not dominant in the field of operation in which it is bidding on government contracts, and qualified as a small business under the criteria and size standards in 13 CFR part 121. Such a concern is "not dominant in its field of operation" when it does not exercise a controlling or major influence on a national basis in a kind of business activity in which a number of business concerns are primarily engaged.
