Michael Coomer Biography

Michael Coomer is senior vice president of the Asia Pacific and Japan region and leader of the Global Financial Services Industry group for EDS, an HP company. He is responsible for driving the business group’s operations in India, Greater China, Japan, Korea, Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand. Coomer also serves as chairman of the board for MphasiS, an independent EDS company based in Bangalore, India. He reports directly to President and Chief Executive Officer Ron Rittenmeyer.
Coomer most recently held a similar position at EDS, as executive vice president, Asia Pacific region. In that role, he directed operations at multiple EDS Best Shore® operations in the region and led more than 30,000 employees providing services to EDS’ regional and global customers. At the same time, Coomer also led EDS’ Global Financial Services Industry group.
Coomer has more than 30 years of business and information technology (IT), primarily in senior executive roles.
Previously, Coomer worked for Westpac Banking Corporation where he was responsible for all banking operations, supply chain management services, property and security. Reporting to Westpac’s CEO, Coomer implemented major programs that streamlined banking processes and IT infrastructure. He joined Westpac in 2002 as group executive for Business and Technology Solutions and Services with overall responsibility for IT, e-business, outsourcing governance and all back-office operations.
Before joining Westpac, Coomer worked for National Australia Bank from 1994 to 2000, advancing through executive positions to become chief information officer. Reporting to the bank’s CEO, Coomer was responsible for all IT operations in the United Kingdom, Ireland, the United States, Asia, Australia and New Zealand. He also served as executive general manager of corporate and e-business strategy.
Prior to joining National Australia Bank, Coomer held positions with IBM Global Services, Ansett Transport Industries and Rockwell International. At Ansett, he was CIO with responsibility for the airline’s information, scheduling, call center and booking systems.
In 10 years at Rockwell International, Coomer served in a number of roles involving telecommunications, defense and aerospace at the defense contractor. He also formerly was a director at the publicly held IT company Adacol and a number of private firms, also serving on the advisory board for the JB Were Private Equity Fund.
Michael Coomer has a bachelor’s degree in engineering and holds a graduate diploma with specialization in digital communications. He is also a graduate of the Harvard Business School Advanced Management Program, and a member and fellow of several Asia Pacific professional organizations.
